Okay, we’re joking. Yes to NUS haven’t followed up this monstrosity with any more painful musical offerings. But what, we hear you ask, if they celebrated their victory in the disaffiliation referendum by releasing a song – one which shamelessly stole the tune of Baddiel and Skinner’s “Three Lions“? Never fear, because VERSA’s got this covered.

We’re staying in, we’re staying in, we’re stay-ing,

Oxford’s staying in

⚽️ ⚽️ ⚽️

Everyone seems to know the score, listening to OUSU bores,

They just know, they’re so sure,

Malia’s gunna’ go-o-o away, they’ve the backing of liberation groups (yay),

Undemocratic – but hey,

Cos’ I rem-e-meber

⚽️ ⚽️ ⚽️

Jazz hands at conference,

Del-e-gates preening

Left-wing intolerance

Of BDS support motions dreaming

⚽️ ⚽️ ⚽️

So many jokes, so many sneers,

All those anti-semitism fea-a-rs,

Condemn ISIS though, and there’s jeers,

But I still see that Liar Liar campaign,

Luciana Berger defamed,

And Malia back-peddling

⚽️ ⚽️ ⚽️

Jazz hands at conference,

Del-e-gates preening

Left-wing intolerance

Of BDS support motions dreaming

⚽️ ⚽️ ⚽️

I know that was then, but it’ll be the sa-a-me again

⚽️ ⚽️ ⚽️

We’re staying in, we’re staying in, we’re stay-ing,

Oxford’s staying in

Almost enough to make us forget why we voted to disaffiliate. But then we remembered that all of the incidents referenced in the song above actually happened. Don’t despair yet, though. Since disaffiliation referendums seem to happen on a bi-annual basis (much like England’s footballing failures), here’s to a victory for No Thanks in 2018.
